As part of the Danobatgroup strategic plan for the period 2021-2024, these investments have been supported by the Basque Government and have brought the total invested by the group to €80m.
Goimek, a company specialising in precision and large-scale machining, has invested €11.6 million over the last four years to elevate its production to a new level. Thanks to these investments, the Basque cooperative has upgraded its facilities and machinery to meet the most demanding challenges in sectors such as aerospace, capital goods, wind energy, and maritime.
The investments were presented today at a ceremony held at the company's headquarters in Itziar, Gipuzkoa, attended by Andoitz Korta, the Basque Government's Deputy Minister of Industrial Promotion; Jaione Ganzarain, the Basque Government's Deputy Minister of Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation; Amaia Arregi, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa's Director of Economic Promotion; Alazne Txurruka, the mayor of Deba; Arantza Egaña, the mayor of Itziar; Jon Ansoleaga, the general manager of SPRI; Xabier Ortueta, the general manager of the AFM Cluster; Nerea Aranguren, the general manager of Danobatgroup; Francisco Javier Fernández, the president of Goimek; and Aitor Txurruka, the manager of Goimek.
Notably, a specific area has been created that is designed to meet the high machining requirements of the aerospace sector. This new space has temperature-controlled conditions to ensure the precise machining of challenging materials such as titanium, Inconel, Invar, bronze, copper, stainless steel, and aluminium alloys.
During this period, the company has also upgraded its machinery to increase its capacity for large-scale machining operations, as evidenced by the latest PR-W 17000 milling machine from Soraluce. With the capacity to machine parts up to 17 metres long, 6 metres wide and 3.5 metres high, this installation enables Goimek to take a significant step forward by machining parts weighing up to 100 tonnes on the same machine. The machine also has three milling and boring heads with automatic tool change, a 180-tool storage and grinding capability, among other features.
“These new capacities will enable us to maintain our position as a leader in the production of large parts for high-value sectors, providing our existing customers with increased capacity and larger dimensions for their parts. They will also enable us to attract new customers”, emphasises Aitor Txurruka, Goimek's manager.
These efforts are complemented by the incorporation of a Danobat SGD tangential grinding machine, a Soraluce FP-8000 travelling column milling/drilling machine and a Hermle C42 five-axis machining centre. The three-dimensional measuring systems have been modernised with new equipment capable of measuring and verifying the quality of the new large parts. Land has been acquired for future growth needs and new spaces have been adapted to provide value-added services to customers. New office space has also been created.
“With these new facilities, we also want to establish closer relationships with our customers and their customers, positioning ourselves as a strategic partner that adds real value and boosts their growth. Because when they move forward, so do we”, adds Aitor Txurruka.
With revenues of €12 million by the end of 2024, a workforce of over 90 people, and a total buildable area of 15,000 square metres in Itziar (including existing buildings), Goimek's challenge with these new investments is to increase turnover by 25% in the next strategic cycle.
These investments mark the end of Danobatgroup's investment cycle in its latest strategic plan (2021–2024), with €80 million invested in the cooperatives of the group — Danobat, Goimek, and Soraluce. This plan has been supported by the Bilakatu programme, promoted by the Basque Government.
“The commitment of Goimek and Danobatgroup is a clear example of how the Basque industry, with the support of institutions, can be a benchmark for competitiveness at an international level from the Basque Country, with values that prioritise local and quality employment”, highlights Andoitz Korta, the Basque Government's Deputy Minister of Industrial Promotion.
