Danobatgroup marks six years of supporting women’s talent in STEM through the Gladys Saria Award

• The industrial group has once again supported the award, which this year recognises researcher Harritxu Gete for her contribution to the digital advancement of the Basque language.

Danobatgroup has participated for the sixth consecutive year in the Gladys Saria Award ceremony, an initiative that has paid tribute to pioneering computer scientist Gladys del Estal since 2021. The award aims to raise the visibility of young women working in the digital sphere and help create new role models for future generations.

The event, held on 24 September at the Santa Teresa Convent in Donostia-San Sebastián, brought together the organisations supporting the award. The initiative is promoted by the PUNTUEUS Foundation and the Faculty of Informatics at the University of the Basque Country (EHU), with the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa as main sponsor and the collaboration of Emakunde, Danobatgroup, the Euskaltel Foundation, EITB and EHU’s Equality Directorate.

This year’s award was presented to Harritxu Gete Ugarte in recognition of her outstanding work in machine translation and large language models, as well as her contribution to the digital development of the Basque language and her commitment to gender equality.

A researcher at Vicomtech, Harritxu Gete has contributed to projects such as Itzuli and Batua. She holds a degree in Mathematics from EHU and a PhD in Language Analysis and Processing. Her research also focuses on gender bias in technology, and she actively participates in initiatives such as Inspira STEAM and Emakumeak Zientzian.

Representing Danobatgroup, Nerea Otxoa attended the award ceremony, one of the initiatives through which the group reaffirms its commitment to promoting female talent in science and technology.

Danobatgroup’s support for the Gladys Saria Award complements other initiatives aimed at fostering talent and Encouraging more girls and young women to pursue STEM studies and careers, including secondary school mentoring programmes organised alongside Debegesa, as well as collaborations with Bizilabe, First Lego League, ZTIM Hub and the Ada Byron Awards.
