Tubos ReunidosTurning of high-technology threaded pipes

Challenge

  • Manufacturing of high-technology pipes with tight tolerances for use in oil drilling operations at depths of 4000-5000 m.
  • Optimising productivity by optimising human resources and assuring optimum quality.

Solution

  • A turnkey line made up of high-technology DANOBAT machines.
  • Machining operations combining different technologies.
  • Automatic tool changing.
  • Fully robotised line.
  • Optimisation of quality & substantial reduction in cutting time.

Equipment

An automatic piping line comprising:

Two DANOBAT TTB lathes.

  • Simultaneous machining with two tools (4 axes).
  • Special chucks for integrating the stopping and centring of pipes into the automatic cycle.
  • DANOBAT Chatter Killer to eliminate any chatter that may occur during threading.
  • DANOBAT feeder table for automatic pipe loading/unloading.

An automatic bushing line comprising:

A high-performance DANOBAT saw:

  • Automatic cutting length adjustment depending on the product to be manufactured.
  • iCS Intelligent Cutting System. Software capable of adapting conditions to the actual cut cross-section, controlling tool deflection.

Three CL lathes:

  • Roughing & threading of workpieces on a single machine.
  • Automatic tool changing.
  • Two robots to feed the three lathes for complete turning & threading of bushings.

Tubos Reunidos Turning of high-technology threaded pipes

Tubos Reunidos has opened Spain´s first high-performance OCTG threading plant. A joint venture with the giant Japanese steel distributor Marubeni-Itochu (MISI) has resulted in the setting up of Tubos Reunidos Premium Threading (TRPT) to make high-technology pipes for use in oil drilling facilities at depths of 4000-5000 m. These extreme working conditions call for patented PREMIUM connections that offer above-standard performance, for which Tubos Reunidos has obtained a licence from leading Japanese threading firm JFE.

To cover these needs TRPT brought this challenge to DANOBAT and together they have developed and installed the latest generation of DANOBAT machines at their plant, which measures more than 30,000 m2, setting up a high-technology production line.
